Birds of Prey - Black Canary

This is the first sample cover I did to be shown to editors at DC comics to try and get myself some professional comic work. Because the guy who is trying to get me work is friends with the writer of this book, he suggested doing the female characters from it so that he could send them directly to her, and if she likes them, she can show her editor.

I drew her leaning on the sports car that she has in the comic. She has no powers other than the ability to destroy things with her scream. She prefers hand-to-hand combat though, as she doesn't like to use her scream as it's so destructive. Because she's such a skilled fighter, I tried to give her a pose showing a fitting attitude, and a physique that shows she has some muscle, without actually showing the definition. The fishnets were harder than I thought they'd be, and there are obvious mistakes, but I just gave up after awhile because I knew I'd just go crazy if I kept messing with them.

Because the pencils in the black areas look like crap from my scanner, I used photoshop to remove the shiny areas. I did a quick, kinda sloppy job of it since it was 4am at the time and I was exhausted and needed to go to bed, yet I was determined to finish it.

I have a second cover on the way of the Huntress character. I'll submit the color version of this one later, as I haven't colored it yet.
